Affect

This project was run by the University of Glasgow's Psychology Department. EdVEC provided the motion capture equipment and a consultation service.

It is an EPSRC grant running for three years studying how visual information is used in the recognition of human movement style.

Two independent approaches are used. One is to determine how efficient humans are at recognising different stylistic variations in human movement and the other is to relate the categorisation of human movement to the underlying kinematics of movement.

The work will not only benefit basic research into the perception of human movementm but also applied work in the automatic production of animations of stylistic human movement.

Thirty participants were captured, each performing various tasks from lifting to knocking with different emotions. A database of the moves can be found at the link below.
